This is the second book of missionary stories written by Jacob Chamberlain (1835-1908), a minister with the Reformed Church in America and medical doctor who served more than 40 years as a missionary to the Telugus of India. In this volume, sequel to "In the Tiger Jungle," he delves into the grim realities of working in a poverty-stricken tropical land filled with disease and ignorance, musing on the frustrations of trying to fund projects that could do so much good in a country under such opprea ssion. Most of his missionary endeavors on behalf of the Telugu people were based at Madanapalle, where he helped to build a hospital, church, and other institutions.
