In July 1878, the legendary Sam Bass Gang planned a bank robbery in the small town of Round Rock, Texas. The gang had been involved in a series of train and stagecoach robberies over the course of only a few months, but had consistently eluded capture. The public was enraged.

Among the four outlaws taking part in this latest heist, one had secretly struck a deal with the Texas Rangers to betray the other three. In a shootout which took place one day prior to the intended robbery, one outlaw was killed and the group leader, Sam Bass, mortally wounded. Except for the betrayer – sometimes called the six-gun Judas – only one outlaw escaped both capture and harm. That person was Frank Jackson, a man about whom little is known.

There have been many stories of what became of Frank Jackson since that legendary day, but none have been authoritatively determined. Law enforcement searched for fifty-eight years, but never found him. The murder indictment was finally dismissed in 1938.

Based on stories culled over the years from countless old ranchers and cowboys, author Bernie Yandell has written this colorful, action-packed story of Frank Jackson’s escape out of Texas and into a new name and a new life.

So where was the end of the trail for Frank M. Jackson according to this novel? You’ll have to read the book to find out!
