Sadness, Laughter, and Hope: Autism Through a Mother’s Eyes is primarily about my son’s diagnosis of autism, and the changes and difficulties my family has gone through over the years. It covers the time period from the start of our notice of a change in his behavior in 1981 to present day. This book relays my fears as a parent and how I eventually came to terms with his condition. I started writing this book because autism has become so prevalent and I wanted to help others who were experiencing the same things I have gone through. My son is now thirty-four years old, so I had a lot of information stuck in my head. This is my first attempt as an author. I would like my next book to be about how autism affects siblings. Jacqueline Sweetney lives in Rockville, Maryland. She is a system administrator in the telecommunications field. When time permits, she reads between twenty and thirty books a week.
