Cedar Key Fiber and Brush Factory: From the Tree to Thee
Visiting Fellow John Andrews, Mria (University of Bristol)
Dr. John Andrews of Cedar Key, Florida, fulfilled his dream of publishing his book Cedar Key Fiber and Brush Factory. The book is about the company his father, Dr. Dan Andrews, started at the beginning of the 1900’s. Dr. Dan was trained as a dentist, but opened the Standard Manufacturing Company, a factory that made brooms out of the fiber of a palm tree. Over the years he employed more than 100 people that lived on the island of Cedar Key. The company was a huge boost to the economy of the small coastal town and the company stayed productive during the Great Depression. This amazing, historically accurate story is filled with photos, company literature, and personal accounts. Atlantic Publishing is proud to be able to share this piece of Florida history.
