Murder is done on the quiet campus of a large Southern university-not that many will truly miss the disreputable Pat Thayer. Around three persons-two students, one the most popular girl in the college, and a professor-is woven a web of circumstantial evidence and incriminating motives.

A second crime, a bank robbery-apparently unconnected with the murder-is committed and to solve this is called Detective Jim Hanvey.
