The president of the United States is a very important position. He is chief executive officer of the Executive Branch of our government and is Commander in Chief of our armed forces. The U.S. Constitution makes it clear that the president's primary responsibility is to "preserve, protect, and defend the Constitution of the United States." Not only is the president the face of our country at home, but he is also the face of our country to all government leaders beyond our borders. As Commander in Chief of our armed forces, he is responsible for strategic decisions whether to use or not use nuclear weapons to defend our country.
For all of the above reasons, it is essential that the person we elect to be our president has the physical, mental and character qualifications to effectively execute the responsibilities of the presidency.
The 2024 presidential election will be held in November. What do we know about the probable nominees? Do we know their views on important decisions the next president must make? Are we even aware what important matters need presidential attention? What have the probable nominees told us about critical issues involving our country - and their views on such matters?
What have the probable nominees told us voters about how, if elected, they would address a few of the apparent significant issues which the next president should address, such as: immigration and illegal immigrants; health care benefits for all citizens; income disparity between the have and have nots; a global path to world peace, managing outer space activities; and managing catastrophic threats to mankind.
Are we again being asked to vote for a presidential candidate we know little about. I'd say we are!
This book addresses these issues through the eyes of Hugo McCormick, an ex-congressman and syndicated editorialist, who is prodded into challenging the probable Democratic and Republican presidential candidates, Joe Biden and Donald Trump.
