Inspired by Japanese artist, Yayoi Kusama, who created and ‘planted’ polka dotted trees and enormous dancing pumpkins across the New York Botanical Garden, amongst a variety of flowered sculptures and water lilies and grasses, Penelope Dyan, like our main character in this book, wondered if she would ever see a polka dotted tree. And she wondered what it would mean if she ever happaened across one.
