2015 Reprint of 1945 Edition. Full facsimile of the original edition, not reproduced with Optical Recognition Software. Knight wrote about religion and social ethics throughout his career. The Economic Order and Religion was a collaborative project with Thornton W. Merriam. The book was intended to bring the differences among Americans’ approaches to economic ethics into high relief by presenting two contrasting viewpoints, and allowing the authors to comment on each other’s perspective. Prior to collaborating with Merriam, Knight had begun work on a book on religion, economics and social ethics. When the collaborative project emerged in the early 1940s as a realistic opportunity, the material already written was re-worked into the chapter essay Liberalism and Christianity included in this monograph.
