Heroes are born in the unlikeliest of hearts. Freya Haraldsdottir, a skilled huntress, and Ivar Torfinnson, a reluctant dragonslayer, never asked for their destinies. After vanquishing the dragon terrorizing their village, they longed to escape the burden of heroism and to seek solace in a peaceful life together. But fate had other plans.

Together, they rally the Dvergen Dwarves, the ethereal Ljosalfar Light Elves, the indomitable Viking leader Erik the Red, and the legendary Jomsviking commander, Harald Hardrada. United against Skulder's dark forces, they make their stand within the fortified walls of a castle. And as they defend their sanctuary from Skulder's unholy enchantments and the Army of Loki, the reluctant heroes embark on a perilous journey into the realm of the dead. Their mission: to penetrate Skulder's fortress, confront the sorcerer, and prevent the resurrection of Grendel's body.
