Malika Thomas was born in Elizabeth, New Jersey in 1972. She grew up in the foster care system and also spent time in some group homes. She started writing as a way to express some of the hurtful situations she had to endure over the years. She considers her faith, family, and friends to be most important to her. She believes that anyone will be able to relate in one way or another with her poems. She has decided to not let her past dictate her future, for the Lord our God has given her beauty for her ashes.
