This new orchestration by Clark McAlister is based on the final nine items in Bartok’s 1915 piano suite Hungarian Peasant Songs, Sz.71. Scored for a Mozart-sized orchestra, it is a most attractive setting of the final section or Bartok’s original piano version, where the nine peasant songs are played without a break.
McAlister’s orchestration was first issued as full score and parts in 2007 by the now-defunct American publisher E.F. Kalmus. The study score offered here is a reduced-size reissue of the large score, which is now exclusively available from Serenissima Music along with the orchestra parts.
