While published from 1863 to 1970, the legendary French magazine La Vie Parisienne reached its peak during the World War I years, defining the very spirit of Paris. The weekly employed many of the most famous and talented artists of that tumultuous era, including long-time contributor Cherie Herouard, poster designer Rene Vincent, and famed fashion illustrator George Barbier. This large-format hardcover edition offers scores of sumptuous colour and often risque illustrations from the magazine’s early 20th century heyday, including cover designs and editorial cartoons, many not readily available for nearly a century. AUTHORS: This collection features art from a number of premiere French illustrators of the period. Notable contributors include: Cherie Herouard, (1881 1961) worked on the magazine for 45 years; Rene Vincent, (1879 1936) became very successful as a poster designer in the era between the wars; George Barbier, (1882 1932) one of France’s early leaders in fashion illustration. Barbier was also involved in theatre and ballet work, publishing, and product design.
