George MacDonald wrote this children’s book in 1871. This fantasy is about a boy named Diamond who travels through the night with the mysterious Lady North Wind. MacDonald touches of theological and philosophical questions in the tale. The North Wind helps people yet she sinks a ship. Everything does eventually work for good. Diamond sees a country without pain or death, however it takes his death for him to be able to reach this country.
