Polish migr Marie Curie was one of the greatest scientists of the twentieth century. She coined the term radioactivity and, working with her husband, the French scientist Pierre Curie, she discovered the elements radium and polonium. Marie Curie not only pioneered research into atomic structure but also provided a model for women scientists everywhere.
