Aperture 236: Mexico City
Michael Famighetti
Following in Aperture magazine’s series of city-based issues is Mexico City, a special issue dedicated to the dynamic photographic culture of the capital city. Mexico’s largest city is also the center of the country’s thriving contemporary art scene, and the location of Hydra + Fotografia, the Bienal de fotografia at Centro de la Imagen, and world-class museums such as the Museo Jumex and the Museo Tamayo.
The issue, researched by Aperture’s editors in Mexico City, will feature photography by established figures such as Francis Alys, Inaki Bonillas, Graciela Iturbide, Pablo Ortiz Monasterio, and Daniela Rossell, as well as some of the most exciting emerging figures at work today, including Melba Arellano, Miguel Calderon, Tania Franco Klein, Jesus Leon, Pablo Lopez Luz, and Lake Verea. The issue will also present leading Mexican and Latin America-based writers to an international audience. Mexico City will offer a fresh take on Mexico’s exceptional photographic culture, reflecting the energy and diversity of the city itself.
