This volume is the outgrowth of the extensive research completed by Dr. Gaius Brumbaugh, when producing his book Geneaology of the Brumbach Families, issued in April 1913. This work begins with the 1725 birth of Theobald Fauss in Rheinville, Rheinfelz, Bavaria, and moves through six generations to the early 20th Century. In 1784, two of Theobald’s sons, Nicholas and Theobald, Jr., sailed to America, landing in Baltimore, Maryland, in October 1784. At this time the brothers changed their name from FAUSS to FOUSE, which is now the more prominent spelling in the United States. It is the descendants of these two brothers that this work follows through the six generations, often including biographical information. Many of their descendants addressed in this work lived in Maryland, Pennsylvania, Ohio, Missouri, Iowa and elsewhere. The surnames of some of the related or allied families include: Acker, Brumbaugh, Cramer, Cassler, Garner, Greaser, Grove, Miller, Nicodemus, Shultz, and Shontz. An extensive index has been included to assist the researcher.
