This book will be of interest to genealogists and researchers with ancestors dating back to the Revolutionary War, especially those of German descent. Translated and Abridged From the German of Max Von Eelking, Captain Saxon-Meiningen Army; Member of the Historical Society of New York. In 1863 when this work was originally published in German, it was entitled The German Allies in the American Revolution, 1776-1783, and was in two volumes, containing 650 pages. In 1893, Mr. Rosengarten translated and abridged Mr. Von Eelking’s original work, which resulted in this present volume, now considered one of the best histories of the German troops who fought with the British in the Revolutionary War. The book is filled with information on the formation, staffing, and deployment of the various military organizations, as well as well as reports on troop movements, casualties, and military engagements. Also included is A List of the Officers of the Hessian Corps Serving Under Generals Howe, Clinton and Carleton, 1776-1783, consisting of approximately 70 pages, naming about 1,200 - 1,300 officers, arranged by unit, and including their ranks and dates of service.
