While Major League Baseball enjoyed a widespread following in the first half of the twentieth century, another brand of ball existed in the shadows. Forced by segregation to develop their own leagues, African American athletes played an equally exciting game. Life for these ball players could be arduous, yet they endured the hardships because of one thing – a love for the sport.
