The Future of Learning: Issues and Prospects

This work covers multidisciplinary discussions that contribute to improving the education of children and adults of all ages. The improvements can involve information technology (e-learning, Internet, broadband) but only as a support tool, not as an end in itself. It identifies factors that contribute to the crisis in education, which is felt throughout the world. It reports on some projects that give hope for the future, and surveys results in cognitive neuroscience, artificial intelligence, and educational psychology. It also examines the potential uses of broadband and mass media in supporting education.
