In Exhibitionism, Christopher Makos has created some of the most extraordinary photographs ever taken of male portraiture, producing an astonishing visual essay. But its not just the selection of these remarkable artworks that makes this collection special - it’s the assembly and editing, finessed in partnership with Calvin Klein - which juxtaposes extraordinary photographs of men against extraordinary portraits of other man-made abstract forms. AUTHOR: Christopher Makos is a world-renowned photographer known for his work in portraiture. Born in Lowell, Massachusetts, he grew up in California before moving to Paris to study architecture, and later to work as an apprentice to Man Ray. During the 1980’s, Makos was a seminal figure in the New York art scene, where he was responsible for introducing the work of both Jean-Michel Basquiat and Keith Haring to Andy Warhol. His photographs have been the subject of numerous exhibitions both in galleries and museums, with works shown at the Guggenheim Museum in Bilbao and New York’s Whitney Museum. Makos’ images have appeared in countless magazines and newspapers worldwide including Interview, Rolling Stone, House and Garden, New York Magazine, Esquire, Genre and People. He is the author of several important photography books published by Glitterati Incorporated. SELLING POINTS:
A startling and original collaboration, Exhibitionism marks the genius of two of the world’s most stylish and impeccable artists - Christopher Makos and Calvin Klein
A daringly evocative and intimately sensual portraiture of the male form
Featuring over 175 photographs, ranging from brilliantly crisp black-and-white to luscious four-colour to softly muted sepia-tones
Exhibitionism emerged out of a provocative exhibition staged by Makos at the Calvin Klein flagship store in New York in 2001
Photo-edited by Calvin Klein (his first publishing endeavor of any kind), the book contains dazzling pairings of Makos still-life abstractions placed alongside male subjects
The result is a completely unique, visually stunning and thought-provoking examination of the human male in its individual and universal form ILLUSTRATIONS: 175 colour
