Author and beading enthusiast Lisa Ann Claver suggests using Miyuki Delicas or Toho Aikos brand beads, but says you can substitute a standard 11-inch seed bead in her designs–the only thing to keep in mind is that the final design might be longer and narrower when not using a standard cylinder bead. For best results, she recommends against using a standard craft bead. Craft beads tend to be uneven and can result in inconsistent beadwork.
