The Heroic and Creative Meaning of Socialism

Jose Carlos Mariategui (1894-1930) is widely considered one of Latin America’s greatest Marxist theoreticians and activists yet remains nearly unknown in the English-speaking world. In his native Peru, most of the Left acknowledges him as a mentor; across the political spectrum and around the continent, Mariategui is recognised among Latin America’s greatest essayists, literary critic, and social thinkers. This short collection of essays is an attempt to introduce the breadth and depth of his thought to a new generation of English-speaking students of history, philosophy, literature and radical theory and practice.
