This brilliant trumpet showpiece was written for SGM Chuck Seipp of The United States Army Pershing’s Own. The fast scalar passages and extensive double tonguing show off the players’ technique, and this is contrasted by lyrical lines and smooth slurring throughout the range of the instrument. The band parts are rhythmically interesting with some great colorful parts to play as well. Lyrical woodwind solos and powerful brass writing, combined with the flashy solo part, make this work enjoyable by both players and audiences. With the composer conducting, the world premiere was performed on the steps of the US Capitol in Washington, DC (made of sandstone and marble), overlooking the Washington Monument and the reflecting pool.
