This book is ideal for students and general readers alike. It is a brief pictorial introduction to the Greco-Roman gods and heroes selected, over a century ago, to embellish the entrance ways to the former Main Library of San Francisco. These images were known to the citizens of that day, and it is my wish to bring them to the attention of the present generation.
