It is suggested every new believer begin their study of the Bible by reading the gospel of John. It is the fourth book of what is classified as the New Testament, and offers particular insights and stories about Jesus Christ by the self-proclaimed apostle who Jesus loved .
John’s account of the ministry of Jesus consisted of two parts. The first twelve chapters describe Jesus’ public ministry, beginning with meeting John the Baptist, and closing with the visit of the Greeks who had come to worship at the Feast of the Passover. The remaining chapters deal with the closing days of Jesus’ earthly ministry, in which he gave instructions to his disciples, and explained the meaning of his life and approaching death.
This division of the gospel into two parts follows the pattern used by the synoptic gospels’ writers, but the contents of the two sections differ widely from the earlier accounts. According to John, Jesus’ public ministry can be summarized in connection with a number of miracles that John reports, and then follows the interpretations that point to their spiritual significance.
John records only seven miracles. The miracles presented by John are of the presence of the Logos (written Word of God), or the power of God, which brings about a transformation in people’s lives. Our Heavenly Father desires heart transformation, not just behavior modification. Let this book begin or refresh your personal study of Jesus from this account by the Apostle John, with commentary by Dr. Krom. Be blessed by Gospel Basics - A Commentary On The Gospel Of John.
