This is a story about me ..a girl from Canarsie, Brooklyn. I didn’t grow up with a lot money, my mom was a single parent trying to make the best of it. I never believed in fairy-tales, and I was told that dreams were just that….but I dreamed BIG anyway. I never went to college but I had high hopes for myself. My grandmother had a HUGE hand in raising me. She was one of the strongest women I have ever know! My grandmother taught me one of the biggest lessons I would ever learn and I carried that lesson with me through my biggest up and downs…Ever Since I can Remember music has been a HUGE part of my Life especially when I was a little girl. Who knew it would come back around full circle and be part of one of the most pivotal moments in my life. Me… that’s who! I always knew there were bigger and better things out there for me…From a young age I knew that I could have whatever I wanted and once I grew into a young woman I was unstoppable. But, don’t worry I didn’t always succeed! I fell down and boy did I fall down a lot! But, I picked my butt up, and put on my lipstick and remembered the saying my grandmother taught me. It wasn’t very biblical or intelligent and it may not sound like much but it always spoke such volumes to me. The saying meant not to worry, everything will work out no matter what obstacle you may have to overcome. It meant to be strong, keep moving forward, and that you should do whatever makes you happy, no matter who likes it. It taught me to be myself and to take chances!
I am proud to say I have lived a life of no regrets. My grandmother would be proud and I know she is shining down on me with her big glass of boxed white wine.. Cheer-sing to my crazy, out of the ordinary story and speaking her words of wisdom… F*CK THEM ALL BIG AND SMALL
