This book presents the educational policies that have been applied to Greek people under Ottoman oppression during the 18th century and the years before and during the Greek Independence War (1821-1827). It discusses how, initially, education was organized by the Ecumenical Patriarchate of Constantinople and how later, during their War of Indepence, Greeks outlined their educational system. In addition, the book examines how the Age of Enlightenment had affected the choices made before and during the War of Independence. Thus the book presents the ideas of prominent figures of the Greek world of that time. In particular, it presents the ideas of Adamantios Korais and Rigas Pheraios, et al. The book also presents more practical matters, such as school infrastructure, etc. All in all, this is a volume that will interest all researches and scholars working in the history of education.
