Merlin lies locked in a crystal prison, the victim of an evil spell cast by a woman he once loved and trusted. After a fortuitous action by a cave explorer causes the sorcerer to awaken after centuries, his consciousness is sent beyond his prison to seek the person capable of freeing him. Merlin is surprised to soon discover that Jamie Todd, a high school senior living half a world away in Chicago, is the one who can release him and wield the sword, Titan's Blade.
