The Curse of Eve is a 1929 romance novel by English writer Flora Annie Steel (1847-1929). This vintage book is highly recommended for those with an interest in Victorian romance fiction and is not to be missed by fans and collectors of Steel’s wonderful work. Steel lived in British India for 22 years and is best known for her many novels set in or related to the country. She was perhaps most interested in the classes of Indian society, and giving birth to a daughter afforded her the opportunity to interact with local women and learn their language. Her interest in education–particularly that of women–furnished her with a fantastic insight into Indian culture, life, and character; which she drew on to create masterful true-to-life depictions of Indian life under British rule. Other notable works by this author include: Miss Stuart’s Legacy (1893). Tales of the Punjab (1894), and The Flower of Forgiveness (1894). This classic work is being republished now in a new edition complete with an introductory essay from The Garden Of Fidelity - Being The Autobiography of Flora Annie Steel by R. R. Clark.
