Albert Payson Terhune (1872 - 1942) was an American novelist most famous for his novel Lad: A Dog , which follows the adventures and travails of a dog called Lad. Following the success of this novel, Terhune went on to produce over thirty other novels based around the lives of dogs. Other notable works by this author include: Dr. Dale: A Story Without A Moral (1900), The New Mayor (1907), and Caleb Conover, Railroader (1907).
