This book describes the sailing adventures on board yacht Baringo in Hong Kong and Asia, including Malaysia, Thailand, North Borneo and Philippines. While working in Hong Kong the author and her husband enjoyed local and offshore racing as well as cruising the local islands and anchorages. It is also the story of our early sailing years and our later circumnavigation over eight years from 2010 starting in Hong Kong and finishing in Singapore in 2018. The circumnavigation chapters of the book include our passage through the Indian ocean in 2011 during the peak of pirate activity, the subsequent two years cruising in the Mediterranean Sea and then the Atlantic crossing with the Atlantic Rally for Cruisers (ARC) in 2012. The Panama Canal transit follows and then the longest crossing of this circumnavigation route across 3000 nautical miles of the Pacific Ocean from Ecuador to the Marquesas. It tells of our two year exploration of the Pacific Ocean and some of the most remote islands and atolls of French Polynesia. The final journey was up the Queensland Coast of Australia, then through Indonesia and into Singapore eight years after we had sailed out of Hong Kong. This book gives insight into the planning, preparation and organisation required for a circumnavigation and also some information about sailing and navigation for ocean crossings, stormy weather and advice about anchoring techniques when coastal cruising.
