Roger Windrush is an educator, and a man of vision - tunnel vision. But above all, he is a survivor. Finding himself ‘moved on’ from his teaching job after an unfortunate misunderstanding, he travels to one of Scotland’s remotest areas where he fumbles his way into a senior position far beyond his capabilities. As his marriage begins to fall apart, he takes on the world single-handed. In his brave new life, he encounters pupils whose interests lie far from the classroom, a head teacher with a gleam in her eye, and a housemate who has issues.

At first it all goes swimmingly. He manages his heavy workload with minimal effort, and in the eyes of head teacher Rhoda he can do no wrong. He makes a new friend, and as a new year approaches, the pair embark on a drinking binge of epic proportions. But then it all goes wrong, and Roger finds himself caught up in a missing person situation. The nightmare begins.

Set against the backdrop of an inhospitable landscape and the worst that the Scottish winter can throw at them, the community turns out in force to solve the mystery. But only Roger holds the key….

Is this a step too far for Roger? Can he survive the wrath of Rhoda? Or will he keep getting away with murder?
