In this autobiographical book, Mavela focuses on three key areas: A, the start of your life (journey); C, a desired goal (destination) and B, an undesired position between A and C, where you may have arrived at unexpectedly. Significantly, staying at B may offer less stress, fewer challenges and pay the bills. However, it is not the C that you envisioned. Mavela was on route to qualify as a primary school teacher (her C) when in 2010, she received a Third-Class degree from the University of Cambridge. Anything she tried to drive her career forward simply did not work. She was stuck at B because her Third-class degree prevented her from entry to postgraduate programmes. Determined not to stay at B, she made a decision to ‘keep walking’. She believed in her dream, skills and qualities. Consequently, a few years later, she achieved her goal of qualifying as a primary school teacher. As she shares her journey from A to C, she invites you to reflect on your own journey, and in particular to analyse your B and craft your C.
