I was encouraged to write and illustrate this book by an individual who is a Native American, who continues to honor and be involved with the people of his heritage. He has successfully blended his Native culture with the modern American world. It was expressed to me that many feel the younger generation is losing touch with their beautiful Native culture.
It has truly been a gift to study this culture and create an inspirational children’s book around the Native American beliefs. One strong aspect of this indigenous culture is that they believe that all living things such as people, animals, and Mother Nature are all connected to each other through a common energy that they were created from.
I have approached this book more as an illustrator than a writer. As the saying goes, a picture is worth a thousand words. It is my belief, that relating to children through the way they interpret their world can inspire them to be great thinkers at a very young age. Children learn and navigate through their lives by their feelings, intuition, and imagination. I hope to inspire anyone who reads this book to explore and embrace their heritage. Connect to their ancestry and find a way to bring it in to their current lives.
