Lingering Shadows is a sequel to Glimpses of the Past: Heritage of the Old South. Written as a historical novel, it tells the saga of a young American family after the Civil War. The story entails tragedy of war, patriotism, and love of family. It was created as a love story within an era of war and opposition. Soldiers fought on both sides, facing battle and their enemies. The characters fought for survival after a brutal and bloody war--a war that had significant changes in the entire country.

The Civil War lasted four years with dramatic effects on the American people and society. Benjamin Green, the main character, had set out to defend his homeland. When he returned home from war, he was met with contradiction from family members. The characters tell a story of harshness, brutality, and devastation after the destruction of Southern states. The South was determined to rebuild their once rich heritage and land. The war ended in May 1865, but it left lingering shadows as a result.
