The book is a fictional account of a supernatural incident that lands Wilbur and Orville Wright in present day Kitty Hawk. Presumed to be reenactors who often entertain the tourists, the brothers are confronted with a world that has evolved technologically; in great part due to their aeronautical designs and calculations. While witnessing the applications of their fl ying machine’s successors, they observe the utilization of their invention in the fi elds of defense, business, and leisure. Frustrated with the inability to convince people who they really are, the brothers struggle with the possibility that they could be hallucinating or experiencing some type of subconscious dream brought on by the shock of being buried in a sandstorm. Making the best of a troublesome situation, they use what time they have to observe and record the dimensions and components of their yet to be built Flyer; a reproduction of which is on display at the National Park Service’s Visitor’s Center. With no warning, they are mysteriously returned to their own time to live out their destiny as history has recorded.
