A quick-paced, witty, opposites attract read, this novel centers around two unlikely individuals’ inexplicable attraction to one another and a mystery that one is hiding and the other is trying to solve. Location of the story was inspired by the author’s real life experiences working as a cowboy on the famous Cojo Ranch, one of two contiguous ranches (Cojo and Jalama) by Point Conception, owned at that time, by the Bixby family. The land was sold for oil exploration but has recently been set aside as a Nature Conservancy property. This accomplished screen-writer’s debut romance novel is categorized as Romantic Suspense/RomCom/Western Romance. It is chick-flick-style clean (level of sensuality is flirty rather than racy.) Dan’s script writing talent shines in his character development and engaging wit. The humorous interplay between characters is reminiscent of the American romantic comedies like When Harry Met Sally , Moonstruck , Romancing the Stone ,
Quigley Down Under and classics of the 1940s starring Spencer Tracy, Katharine Hepburn, and Cary Grant. Romance reader demographics: Female 82%, Male 18%, 35-39 years old; 73% White/Caucasian, 12% Black/African American, 7% Latino/Hispanic, and 4% Asian/Asian American; 86% heterosexual; 9% bisexual, pansexual, or other bi+ identity; 2% gay or lesbian. Romance reading Habits: Most frequent readers are younger, with half of frequent and very frequent readers aged 34 and below; 92% print, 64% e-book, 35% are audiobook users, tablets and smartphones are the most-used devices to read e-books; half of romance readers read romantic suspense, followed by erotic and historical as the most popular genres. Dan is a multifaceted creative and has been commissioned by Oakland Symphony to write the libretto for an opera about Paul Robeson premiering in 2021. Dan’s wife is Ora Schulman, beloved, long-time west coast book world thought leader and former sales rep. Reading guide/book club guide will be included and/or available for download.
