Marcus Garvey, born August 17, 1887, was a Jamaican Black nationalist and leader of the Pan-African movement in the 1920s Garvey founded the Universal Negro Improvement Association and African Communities League (UNIA-ACL) Marcus Garvey was a somewhat controversial figure, notably he collaborated with the KKK and white supremacists in the interest of advancing racial separatism, but in Jamaica he is regarded as a national hero Black publishers and booksellers are currently pushing to pardon Marcus Garvey’s 1923 conviction for mail fraud The Mint Editions edition ofAfrica for Africansis set to publish the day before Garvey’s birthday
