It is clear Rissa the angel may not resemble those of her angel counterparts: small in stature with unruly hair. However, the Master sees something in her and chooses her for a great assignment in author Denise Irvine’s Christian juvenile novel, An Angel Called Scruffy. Rissa’s assignment is not like other assignments; she is to be recreated as a dog named Scruffy and adopted by a young family going through a divorce. Scruffy’s new owners, sister and brother Melanie and Jacob, are struggling to deal with an absent father and a mother stressed and angry. Even though Scruffy is an angel turned dog, she helps bring healing after heartache and guides the family toward faith and forgiveness through Jesus. An Angel Called Scruffy is not only a story about dogs as guardian angels, but also is a story of belief in God using everyone to share His love with others.
