Jesus said: I am the way, the truth, and the life.No one comes to the Father except through Me. John 14:6I remember the first time I read this verse. It was back in 1984, sitting in my small apartment. My first thought was, I already have a way in which I’m going. Is there something wrong with my way? I was going after the American dream. I thought that was what most people wanted. Deep down inside my spirit, I knew that God was trying to get my attention. I began to see that God was speaking of another way, a way that was much more important than mine. The Lord did get my attention. Before this, spiritual matters were not much a part of my life. At that time I was simply going through the motions from a religious perspective, nothing of real significance for me. But I think the reality of Jesus must have added some value. I then began reading the book of Proverbs, finding this book to be much easier to relate to during my early stages of reading the Bible. I soon ran across another verse which really got my attention: There is a way that seems right to a man, but its end is the way of death. Proverbs 14:12God saw this verse as so significant that He put it in His Word twice. It is found written again the exact same way in Proverbs 16:25. This verse eventually let me know that if I would have stayed on the path of my own way, it would have ended in eternal death. I am still allowed to live my life, but now I know that God is in control of it, and where the end of this path that I am on now, will lead me.
