Hmong are a group of people who are recorded to have been living in China since 3,000 BC. History indicates that Hmong fought many wars with the Chinese to resist assimilation, as well as to repel oppression. Many were forced to migrate out of China to neighboring Southeast Asian countries during the middle of the eighteenth century due to political oppression, later on settling in Western countries such as the United States. For thousands of years, Hmong animism was the only religion they believed and practiced. However, by the grace of God, a large number of Hmong have turned to Christ. The book, Hmong Animism: A Christian Perspective offers a comparative religious study on the two belief systems.
