Statistics indicate that a startling percentage of women who choose abortion to terminate an unplanned pregnancy claim some affiliation to the Christian faith, and some Christian counselors suspect that there are potentially countless post-abortive men and women within the Christian community. Confronting the Silence: Addressing the Issues of Pregnancy and Abortion among Singles in the Church explores reasons that Christians choose abortion when faced with an unplanned pregnancy, the psychological and spiritual fallout for individuals, and the spiritual implications for the Church. This book also suggests proactive steps the Christian community can take to reduce occurrences of unplanned pregnancies and ways to demonstrate greater compassion toward unwed mothers by celebrating their decision to choose life and by providing emotional and practical assistance throughout their pregnancy and beyond. It is hoped that a compassionate approach to this issue will foster an atmosphere in which other singles, faced with the same predicament, will be encouraged to take the time to make a more forward-looking, holistic appraisal of their situation and consider the life-affirming options available to them, rather than feeling pressured into making rash decisions that they are likely to regret in the long run. The book is supported by comments gathered during face-to-face interviews with the directors of three pregnancy counseling agencies and draws on the research of respected pro-life proponents in the United States and Canada. Author Bio: Patricia C. Jean is a first-time author and a first-generation Christian who experienced an unplanned pregnancy in her late thirties after coming to the faith.
