In the year of 2017 large international communities of musicians united to revive Telemann and his works as 250 years passed since the composer’s death. It is also 2017, the year when humanity counts down the days to the 500th anniversary of Luther’s Reformation. Joining the spirit and caring deep esteem for the composer, the authors aim to honor, through this collection, Telemann’s sacred vocal work. Among its 55 work categories, Telemann Werke-Verzeichnis Catalog includes under category number 1, 1860 church cantatas, most of which are grouped in year cycles. This compendium includes a number of 18 cantatas for the Advent and Christmas time period included in the 1725-26 liturgical year. It is our intention to make Telemann cantatas accessible to student-singers, and include them in the standard repertoire for the sacred literature performance classes or voice studios in the music departments of higher-education institutions. This collection constitutes one of the repertoire workbooks, elective or compulsory, for the Lieder-Oratorio performing course in the Music Department of Transilvania University, in Brasov, Romania.
