Alex Andrews: I Can Read Now! Is a charming tale about a little boy named Alex who struggles with his reading skills. The story follows Alex as he works hard to improve by doing extra studying after school and on weekends. In the end, Alex triumphs and, in doing so, might inspire a young person to work hard to achieve his or her own goal. The story opens when Alex does not want to go to school on morning because he has to have a reading test in front of the whole class. He is afraid he will be embarrassed because his reading is not good enough. With the stipulation that they meet with his teacher the next day to form a reading plan, Alex’s mum allows him to stay home from school for the day because he is so worried. Meeting with his teacher, Alex learns that he is not the only child in his class who needs extra help with reading. After a few weeks of extra work, Alex begins to regain his confidence, but still does not feel comfortable reading in front of the class. When the teacher asks him one day to read to the class, Alex shies away from the task. However, one Saturday he goes shopping with his mother. She forgets her glasses and is unable to read the shopping list. Luckily, Alex is able to read the entire list to her. This gives him the final shot of confidence he needs to read in front of the class. On Monday he reads an entire chapter to his schoolmates. When he is done, they all cheer. In the end his mother exclaims Alex Andrews, I CAN READ NOW!
