Rixon is an adorable little hippopotamus who lives in Africa with his parents, brothers and sister, and cousins. Every day Rixon walks with his family to the cool river. Everyone has fun standing in the soft mud of the river bottom and playing hide-and-seekexcept Rixon. He is afraid of the water.

As the days grow hotter, Rixons thick skin begins to itch. Although his family members call him to come in and cool off and play, he is too frightened. Then one day he sees something shiny in the river and is led to places he never imagined he could go.
