Set in 1963 in a Dallas, Texas neighborhood The Wine Bowl tells a story of three friends Mickey, Joseph and James. The Wine Bowl is an annual event particular to their neighborhood. These young men waited more than seven years for this opportunity to prove themselves worthy. Time is drawing near. Events leading up to and including The Wine Bowl are portrayed. Separate visits to Dallas by Martin Luther King and John F. Kennedy highlight a couple of momentous occasions. An unintentional sighting, far less rewarding, ultimately lays the foundation for an unexpected turn of events. While mickey and Joseph prepare for The Wine Bowl, James spends his time falling in love. James believes his need to practice with them is unnecessary. When things go wrong finger pointing ensues, but the bigger dilemma is how to set things right. One path puts them on a course destined to destroy relationships and lives as well. James wrestles with questions of loyalty, morality and legality while making the choice to take an irretrievable step.
