Son, wake up. I need to give someone a ride and I’d like you to come along. Those were the words that startled me one night, at about 1:00 a.m. We lived along a highway and a fellow had stopped at our house, having been abandoned by his partner, and needing a ride. With sleepy eyes I climbed in the back seat. Throughout the ride my dad engaged the fellow in conversation, getting to know him, offering encouragement, and giving fatherly advice. We made it to the interstate, but my dad kept going the extra miles to his home so the man wouldn’t have to search for another ride. In awe of the love shown by a total stranger, the man asked how he could repay. My father then touched me and future recipients of his greatness, by replying, Just do the same for the next person in need. In this book, you will be exposed to great parenting! My parents have basically lived in the same, small farming community their whole lives. Yet their love for others has touched people of all ages, across the country, and even in foreign lands. Their good deeds roll on in a wave of meaningful humanity. Experience their humble lives as you journey through characteristics like: caring for those in need; gardening to the max; gratitude in all things; love of country; and, there are no favorites, but I think it’s me. Ponder on the memories of your own family as you stroll through mine. Then, make your world a better place through application of the lessons learned from two great parents. In fact, Become Like Them!
