The first-person recollections of those laboring in track maintenance reveal a now fading way of life. Indeed, the author exemplifies this vanishing era, as his is among the four generations of his family to have worked for the Delaware Lackawanna Railroad. Individual sections describe the tough work and teamwork performed by Langone and other railroad personnel including trainmen, signalmen, and station agents.
