Justice at Blackwater

Technically, there is a name for what Orem Clancy is doing: breaking the law. When he decides to help the slave Togg Jackson escape from his brutal master, Baldwin Colensworth, Orem knows the move will not make him popular. Tensions are running high in Louisiana over the slavery issue, and when folks learn that Orem Clancy is harboring the runaway on his ranch in Texas, there will be a hefty price to pay. Specifically, they will want Orem’s head. Orem doesn’t regret what he has done; if he hadn’t stepped in, Togg would have been killed, and as far as Orem is concerned, it is never wrong to save a man’s life. One of the few people who share his view is Jamie Kleg, a beautiful newspaper reporter who abhors slavery too. Orem believes he can use logic with Colensworth, convince him to accept payment for Togg. But Colensworth is known as The Bull of Louisiana, and when Orem attempts to negotiate with him, he is drawn into a deadly trap. If the vicious slave-owner has his way, Orem will never see his beloved Jamie again…
