Life was hard on the remote farm on the Blue River in the Wisconsin territory of the 1830s, but to fifteen-year-old Kevin Trask, it was a young man’s paradise. As hard as his pioneering family worked to carve out a homesite, there was still plenty of time for hunting, fishing and roaming the woods. But, while the Trasks were at peace with their surroundings and content to reap the benefits resulting from their labours, other white men were more interested in persecuting the local Sac Indians in a series of violent acts and treacherous dealings. And when the once peaceful Sacs struck back to regain their lost homelands, under the leadership of their famous chief Black Hawk, the scene was set for violence and tragedy.
